Perched above Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden, Blue at Lavender Bay combines unrivalled harbour views with a connection to the local area. It is the “charm and history” of the place that inspired Kerry Fyfe and the designers at PTW to create this beautiful new building.
An iconic location demands an iconic building. It should come as no surprise that the name “Blue” derives from the spectacular views of the harbour on offer. Through their visual connection to the water, the apartments become part of the rich heritage of the area.
PTW and Aqualand have expressed this iconicity in the focus on luxury. As Alex Adams of Aqualand summarises it, “the vision for the project was to create the best of the best.”
It is this drive towards luxury living, and the exquisite attention to detail entailed by it, that defines the project. In the kitchen space, the presence of Gaggenau appliances signifies a level of luxury and detail for the whole design. The building also embodies the sustainable design principle of “never demolish” (courtesy of Pritzker Prize-winning architects Lacaton and Vassal) by adding to the pre-existing structure.
Views are only good insofar as there are people there to enjoy them and Fyfe is keen point out that the apartment spaces allow for guest entertainment: “They need to be generous kitchens with good, functioning appliances that really stand up to that test.”
Each apartment’s kitchen includes a full suite of Gaggenau appliances including ovens, range hoods and stove top. Meeting the functional requirements for entertaining guests, these products also allow for flexibility and adaptability thanks to their cleanliness, sophistication and simplicity.
Blue at Lavender Bay taps into the harbour connection with views shared by the community. Internally, however, the luxurious design and detailing leave room for personalised touches ranging from bespoke decoration to modern elegance.
