The story behind the award-winning supplier of contemporary lighting solutions.
What does your company supply?
We design and make decorative lighting products that include a standard range of table, floor, wall & pendant fittings. We also make custom lighting for projects and commissions.
What’s the history of your company (how did it start)?
The company was started by Celina Clarke and Simon Christopher who met at RMIT studying Industrial Design in the late 1980’s. Their first products were a mixture of giftware, furniture & lighting that won critical acclaim and design awards. In 1998 they decided to focus on lighting design.
Where do you distribute?
ISM has showrooms in Melbourne & Sydney with distributors in Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. They also sell through select lighting stores and online retailers.
Describe your customers?
Our customers are predominantly architects, interior designers and the design savvy.
What sets your company apart?
We combine cutting edge design and current trends with realistic lead times and price points. All our products are locally made.
Who should we speak to when specifying?
We have architectural representatives in Melbourne and Sydney, and a network of trade distributors listed on our website.
What are your client’s priorities at the moment?
Our clients are looking for unique products with green credentials, such as the use of energy saving technology as well as items that minimise their carbon footprint by being made in Australia.
What is good design to you?
Good design has the ability to challenge and surprise. It should give more than it takes.
What does the future hold?
We are opening an exciting retail space in St Kilda. Watch this space.
