2010 – The Year Indesign

As 2010 draws to a close, we look back at the people and projects that inspired and challenged us throughout the year.
Well, the time has come to think back to our favourite architecture and design moments of 2010. And what a year it’s been!
We farewelled the prolific and influential Bruce Rickard and celebrated the successes of movers and shakers like NAWIC’s Businesswoman of the Year Mia Feasey and this year’s Pritzker Prize winners SANAA.
We’ve seen some outstanding and quirky new projects, from pop-up bars to a yoghurt stand and even a designer laundrette.
We were fascinated by the Waterhouse Hotel in Shanghai and Asylum’s Salad Shop in Singapore – the two most clicked-on projects of 2010 on indesignlive.
We deliberated over Barangaroo, and the debate about Frank Gehry’s design for the Dr Chau Chak Wing building at the University of Technology Sydney will continue well into 2011.
We travelled and saw the best of international architecture and design. Indesignlive had people on the ground reporting all the action from the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, 100% Design Shanghai, Orgatec 2010 in Cologne and Interieur in Kortrijk, Cersaie in Bologna, the Venice Architecture Biennale and Frankfurt Light+Building.
In Australia, we enjoyed the high calibre of creative thinkers at the Sydney Architecture Festival, Semi Permanent and State of Design. We celebrated prizeworthy new design at the National Architecture Awards and the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
2011 promises to be another action-packed year. We’re especially excited to be bringing our annual Saturday in Design event to Singapore in May. We’ll also be announcing many more exciting and inspiring new events in the months to come.
Thanks to all our readers for your support throughout 2010. We look forward to bringing you all that’s new and happening in architecture and design in 2011.
