DESIGN CAMPAIGN TO HIGHLIGHT GENDER INEQUALITY

Oxfam Australia’s Design For Change and international branding agency Landor are calling on Australian creatives to design for change and use their creative work to highlight gender injustice.

The Gender Inequality #feelswrong campaign launches on Thursday 5th of March 2015, with the aim of raising awareness in regards to gender injustice and call on the design community to create a poster that expresses the issues surrounding gender inequality.

Tida Tippapart, Oxfam Australia’s Design For Change coordinator, says women perform 60 percent of the world’s work, yet only earn 10 percent of the world’s income, and 70 percent of people living in poverty are women.

“A conversation about gender is incredibly important, and designers can help us push for gender justice to be part of our culture. Our #feelswrong poster competition has been created to compel designers to be part of a generational movement to end gender inequality,” said Tippapart.

Judges include Design for Change, Landor and The Loop, with more to be announced soon. Judges will be looking for diversity and original ideas that show an intelligent and arresting perspective on gender equality. There will be eight winning submissions selected, which will appear as part of an exhibition with Oxfam Australia in Melbourne for the national gender conference in October 2015.

“A designer’s eye can see what is unbalanced, uncomfortable or just feels wrong. We need to recognise the influential set of skills we have and apply them to issues such as this to ignite conversation and raise awareness. Our goal, with Oxfam, is to call for the support of the design community and for them to be a part of this mission to end gender inequality,” said Jenni Doran, Design Director at Landor Sydney.

The competition opens on Thursday 5th March 2015, with submissions open until Tuesday 30th June 2015. For further information, visit designforchange.org.au.
