The elegant new furniture from Tim Rundle

Contemporary Australian design brand SP01 is renowned for its finely detailed, hand-crafted furniture, and these two new series of seats by London-based industrial designer Tim Rundle continue that narrative.

Michelle, Dining Chairs & Low Stool

Following on from the success of 2018’s Michelle mirror collection, Tim Rundle has expanded the name, developing the visual language of the arc to create seating that is an exercise in architectural geometry. When presented on its own, a single Michelle chair makes a bold style statement – with the variously oval or round backs and circular bases set upon fine tubular steel frames to create sculptural shapes in space.

Yet it is in series that the chair shines, with the arched backrests of the dining chairs and stools creating a rigorously ordered group, recalling the classical architectural design of colonnades. Whether in repose or in use, the unique architectural geometry of the Michelle range establishes them as future classics.

Caristo, Dining Chair

The original Caristo lounge chair was an instant hit when launched in 2017, with designer Tim Rundle channelling a generous form and luxurious padding into a chair that exuded of comfort and elegance. This new dining chair variation continues this initial proposition, presenting a shield-shaped backrest in a graceful formation, while the signature paddle-shaped bracket system offsets this with a slightly industrial allure.

Caristo is an elemental dining or work seat that has the added advantage of being stackable to four units.

Finishes

Available from Space Furniture, both the Michelle and Caristo chair are available in a range of upholstered finishes and lacquered plywood. Tim Rundle’s metallic frames are also customisable in a range of finishes from sober satin matt black to glossy black, as well as Bordeaux red and bright gold chrome.
