South Australia’s Architecture Awards have again acknowledged excellence in public architecture within the education sector
The University of Adelaide’s new research hub, The Bragg, has taken top honours at the annual Australian Institute of Architects state level awards. BVN Donovan Hill in association with Hames Sharley took out the prestigious Jack McConnell Award for Public Architecture, the jury applauding the building’s clear concept drawn from the research programs it houses.

‘The strong logic, underlying planning and form is demonstrative of a thoroughly considered project that effectively communicates the nature of science, technology and light,’ the jury noted.

The 2013 COLORBOND® Award for Steel Architecture went to MPH Architects for Thebarton Community Centre. Again, a logical and conceptual approach was commended, with the use of steel to accentuate geometry and deliver a cost effective, landmark facility that worked within local government and budgetary constraints.

A semi-rural residence by Max Pritchard Architects was awarded the top residential design award. The Barossa Valley Glass House took advantage of its hilltop site to offer a residence that is both ‘a delight to behold and experience.’
