With a new, innovative fitout by Formula Interiors, patients at the Mater Cancer Care Centre receive first class, designer treatment.
The state-of-the-art fit out and equipment facilities on show at the new Mater Cancer Care Centre in South Brisbane provides a new level of care for patients empowering them to live with, through and beyond cancer. The 2040 square metre facility was awarded to Formula Interiors after a comprehensive review of suitable providers, with a total project value of 5.2 million dollars. Mater Capital Work’s Helen Kelly oversaw the project with Jonathan Hirst from Aurecon providing superintendant services. The unit provides the most up to date equipment and facilities for consulting oncologists and haematologists who provide both diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients who attend the facility.
“Formula Interiors have been able to strike the right balance between appropriately furnishing a clinical facility and providing the homely comforts which are conducive to a patient’s recovery,” says Mater Private Hospitals Executive Director Don Murray. Located on Level 2 of the Mater Corporate Services building, the project called for the customized fit out of 40 treatment pods – 13 for privately insured patients and 18 for uninsured patients with 5 shared flexible treatment pods, one isoloation room and 3 apsheresis spaces for the clinical management of blood handling services. The 14 consult rooms allow for the thorough and timely treatment of all patients schedule for appointments on any given day.
Whilst the clinical areas incorproate the latest technology available in the health care industry, the new standard of finish that was incorporated into the public spaces by Peddle Thorpe’s Associate Caroline Yuen, resonates more of a cozy boutique hotel than the traditional, utiliatarian hospital environments of the past. “We are thrilled with the end result of the Mater Cancer Care Centre. The interior of the building and carefully chosen décor have come together to create a welcoming and modern facility for our patients,” continues Murray.
These finishes included natural timbers, subdued lighting in waiting lounges in both private and public spaces and high qaulity textile and graphic finishes which reflect a strong influence from nature incorporating an Asian fusion theme. “We are proud to have worked on this project for the Mater which includes everything they need to make this one of the most progressive and best equipped units of it’s kind in any hospital in Australia,” says Mr Gary McDonell National CEO of Formula Interiors.
