NON-ARCHITECT TO RUN LEADING NATIONAL ARCHITECTURE FIRM

ROTHELOWMAN has appointed property industry professional, Nigel Hobart, to the role of Managing Principal.
Appointing a non-architect to a senior management position in a major firm is not unique in the architecture industry today, but when Mr Hobart was made a principal at ROTHELOWMAN seven years ago it was far from the norm.
“When I joined the firm, ROTHELOWMAN had 32 employees in Melbourne and it was a pretty traditional architecture practise yet it was open to a new perspective and saw the value in integrating management consulting principles into the firm’s professional approach,” said Mr Hobart.
ROTHELOWMAN now has 120 employees across three states, with Mr Hobart attributing this continued growth to the firm’s persistent focus on creating highly marketable and commercially sound design solutions for their clients.
“In an increasingly crowded global marketplace, the design excellence of ROTHELOWMAN is becoming more and more important as we strive to help our clients differentiate their product offering,” said Mr Hobart. With more than two decades of business and commercial management experience in the property industry Mr Hobart has been appointed to “manage the business of architecture” allowing founding principals, Shane Rothe and Kim Lowman, to focus on the company’s design innovation and client relations.
“Kim and I remain fully committed to the future growth plans of the firm as full time principals and board members and see Nigel’s knowledge, leadership and management skills as instrumental to the growth of the firm both nationally and internationally,” said Founding Principal and Chairman Shane Rothe.
