New SmartSense induction cooktops from Smeg

Smeg’s new SmartSense Plus induction cooktops offers designers a solution to the age-old problem; how to integrate a cooktop seamlessly into an achromatic benchtop.

In response to feedback from architects and designers, Smeg Australia has been pushing for the introduction of white induction to meet the needs of the Australian market, and is delighted with the new range. Another milestone in Smeg’s nearly seventy-year history of break-through cooking technology, the range features two levels – the SmartSense and SmartSense Plus.

SmartSense has a traditional black ceramic finish and serigraphy on the cooktop for those customers who prefer an indicative product, while SmartSense Plus is available both in black and now in pure white ceramic glass. The most notable difference with SmartSense Plus is that when the cooktop is not operating, there is no serigraphy on the surface – so there’s even less visible interference with the benchtop finish.

This sleek and durable glass finish is set off with gently beveled edges to integrate seamlessly into any high-end kitchen with modern finishes like marble, polished concrete or the new porcelain finishes which are coming through from Italy. For operation, the controls ingeniously light up when the cooktop is in use.

The perfect glass surface belies some serious hardware beneath. Smeg’s SmartSense zones are rectangular in shape rather than round or oval as found in most other induction cooktops. This means that the whole area is usable right to the edge of the zone.

Add to this Surface Share, Smeg’s bridging technology where you can combine areas of your cooktop and operate these simply with a single control, and the result is a truly modern and smart cooktop. Smeg’s SmartSense Plus range has either double or triple Surface Share zones.

Smeg’s Active Surface Control system automatically illuminates the relevant power control, so no matter where on the surface the pan is placed, the corresponding control reveals itself, taking the guesswork out of which control is operating which zone.
