Meet Your Maker

In Good Company opened on Friday 28 January at Sydney’s Object Gallery to an excited capacity crowd eager for an insight into how design is made, from concept to creation.

 

At the exhibition’s centre is a table, expectant, set as if waiting for a group of diners to arrive at any second.

 

What is being served up is in fact a collection of work by some of Sydney’s hottest emerging and established designers, curated by design studio &company.

There are salt and pepper shakers by Magdalena Urzon, napkins and coasters by Cloth, cups and carafes by Vert Design and Oliver Smith, plates and bowls by Nina Baker, Katherine Mahoney, Joshua Lincoln, Mud Australia and Dinosaur Designs, glassware by Evie Group, serving spoons by Oliver Smith and gorgeous porcelain oyster shells by Naomi Taplin &company.

Surounding the table are stools by Trent Jansen, Design by Them and Beth Deguara and chairs by Gary Galego and Magdalena Urzon.

From the ceiling hangs a pendant-shaped light by Cinnamon Lee and a lantern of fabric and stainless steel by High Tea with Mrs Woo.

 

A text and photographic display on the walls surrounding the circular space reveals the stories behind the collaborations and documents all the people and processes required to bring designs to life.

What comes to the fore is the talent and passion of a diverse group of creative people.

 

Alongside the exhibition, which runs until 3 April 2011, Object Gallery is offering design clinics and workshop visits for a real hands-on experience of design and making in action.
