Translating colour through form: a cohesive new Colour Collection enhances the design toolkit

Laminex presents Colour Collection 2027: ten new décors explored through a series of interior applications. From colour and materiality to scale and form, the series demonstrates the versatility of the new collection, fabrication techniques and their potential across contemporary interior design.

A considered extension of Laminex’s iconic palette, Colour Collection 2027 evolved in conversation with designers. Laminex identified nuanced tones that designers were looking to work with, informing the development of the new palette, while expanding the possibilities available for specification. Through a series of diverse applications, the launch demonstrates the versatility of the new décors and how colour, form and materiality can be expressed across contemporary interiors.

Alongside insights from the design community, Laminex drew inspiration from the Australian landscape to shape the colours and woodgrains within the new collection. Drops of native hues are translated into six solid colours: High Country, Scribbly Gum, Desert Dune, Sunbaked, Nullarbor Drift, and the deeply pigmented red-brown ochre of Red Centre. New timber designs draw on the diverse textural barks of native hardwood trees, from smoke-like eucalypt patterns to richer tones, expanding Laminex’s Next Generation Woodgrains range with Raw Bluegum TrueScale™, Calm Bluegum TrueScale™, Smoked Bluegum TrueScale™ and Raw Spotted Gum TrueScale™.

To colour, form lends character. Like a canvas painter branching into sculpture, Laminex collaborated with Naarm-based architecture practice BUNSTON to curate a series of commercial and residential settings. The uplifting imagery demonstrates how a designer can variegate interior architecture or specific features by using the new décors, alongside joinery and fabrication techniques. Post-forming and cold-forming, for example, shape the décors into the types of expressive curves and angles that are key to defining a space’s identity and realising a designer’s vision.

Scale, proportion and volume bring the expansive essence of the Australian landscape into a kitchen. Combining a timber-veneer aesthetic with durability, the monolithic island bench features Raw Bluegum TrueScale™ in AbsoluteGrain®, Laminex’s premium and lifelike finish, alongside TrueScaleTM technology that allows for large-scale application without repeated patterning. However, creating the effortless flow of natural timber grains requires a feat of engineering. Book matching ensures grain direction and alignment across panels, as shown in imagery of an On the Coast kitchen, where the Calm Bluegum TrueScaleTM in AbsoluteGrain® finish cloaks cabinetry, flowing onto the central island bench. Applied at large-scale, it defines the serene gathering space.

In a lounge setting, Red Centre bends around an embracing sofa with inset shelving. The bold, sweeping curves transform the solid hue through cold-forming Laminex High Pressure Laminate over a rounded substrate, an example of how fabrication techniques can promote a sense of ease and visual continuity. Increasing connection across the space, the same hue is interpreted into geometrically sculpted drawers and shelving, showing the way one shade can translate into diverse forms.

“The most enduring interiors aren’t built around a single hero colour or material,” Amanda Watt, Laminex Head of Marketing and Digital notes. “They’re created through palettes that work together effortlessly. Colour Collection 2027 was designed with exactly that in mind.” As such, the new décors lie side-by-side with diverse materiality including stone, timber, concrete, brickwork and steel, showing how each décor evolves within different material palettes. For over nine decades, Laminex has helped designers calibrate the surfaces of homes and commercial interiors, and the launch of Colour Collection 2027 showcases a brand perspective that reaches beyond décors. It recognises that crafted fabrication is key to enabling designers to use high-quality décors to translate the unique visions, alive in their mind’s eye, into real, impactful settings that support work and life.
