Inaugural illumni BreakFirsts

An early start didn’t deter over 80 lighting design and interior design industry professionals gathering for the first of illumni’s BreakFirsts seminars.
It seems the local lighting industry at large has no trouble rising early. Around 80 lighting designers, architects, interior designers and city officials, and sponsors gathered harbouride at The Sebel Pier One Hotel Sydney to attend the inaugural illumni BreakFirsts Seminar. (Not so the attending baristas who left the crowd coffeeless until after 8 am. A small glitch for which illumni apologises)
Mark West, Executive General Manager of Sylvania Lighting Australia made a stirring introduction. Architect and Media Personality, Joe Snell was an unflappable Master of Ceremonies.
The ‘If I Was A Lighting Designer’ topic exposed some interesting points from speakers Brenton Smith, Associate Director of Bates Smart, Jordan Tentori, Executive General Manager of Megabay and Flynn Talbot, Director of Flynn Talbot Studio, while Donn Salisbury of Electrolight championed the lighting designers case.
Our discussion panel confronted some of the issues currently facing the industry including the accreditation of lighting designers and how come customized lighting lighting products are big in Europe but not here.
Outside Sydney Harbor sparkled while inside attendees sparked intelligent debate. This was the first of what will hopefully be many illumni BreakFirsts Seminars. The event was filmed in HD and will shortly be available for online viewing.
