London’s National Portrait Gallery receives an LED makeover thanks to ERCO.
Lighting up 11,000 portraits over 3 storeys is no easy feat – unless you’ve got LED technology from ERCO.
The National Portrait Gallery has long been using ERCO lighting systems for its permanent collection and special exhibition.
Recognising that ERCO’s LED technology enables savings in energy and maintenance and offers superior lighting quality, museum technicians experimented with conversion to LED spotlights in individual areas.

Further rooms made the swap to LED after savings of 68% in energy costs were recorded.
The National Portrait Gallery uses 14W Optec LED spotlights fitted with Spherolit lenses with different characteristics.
The white LED light is free of IR and UV components, making it an excellent choice for optimum exhibit conservation – ensuring that ERCO LED spotlights will continue to light up the National Portrait Gallery for many years to come.
