The same is true of architecture and design; and when we experience it, we recognise those compelling atmospheres and enticing interiors are the sum of a myriad of scintillating parts.
Impeccable interior design is both grounded in the sensory and uplifting for the mind. This is the essence of the talents of Space Commercial, to understand the goals and aspirations for a project, and create a bespoke solution for furniture, flooring and lighting that translates an architectural render into a thriving, living space.
Drawing on the talents of some of the world’s most outstanding makers and shapers, Space Commercial brings Australian designers and architects the benefits of global collaborations and exceptional manufacturing. From workplaces and retail to hospitality, education and public venues, the customised approach ensures exceptional outcomes. This has been demonstrated in projects including Capella Sydney, Allianz Stadium, Deakin University, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and ANZ workplaces. Now, Space Commercial has welcomed the exceptional talents of Stellar Works into its galaxy. Along with another exceptional Italian brand, Billiani, this enhanced and expanded offering in the commercial realm creates new opportunities for bespoke and individual solutions.
Founded in 2012, Stellar Works fuses the flair of French artisan furniture crafting with the exceptional design aesthetic of Japan and the technological capabilities of Shanghai’s master manufacturing approach.
Stellar Works specialises in design that starts with a blank page, inviting architects and designers to create customised furniture items that are tailored to the scale, story and functional requirements for each project.
Inspired by the traditions of Japanese design and informed by a global outlook, the brand combines enduring craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking. This philosophy is reflected in both its collections and its ability to deliver bespoke outcomes, making it particularly well suited to hospitality and commercial environments where individuality and design integrity are paramount.
Collaboration is at the heart of the Stellar Works brand, with an international roster of designers including Neri&Hu, Yabu Pushelberg, Keiji Ashizawa Design, Space Copenhagen, Michele De Lucchi, Sebastian Herkner, Nendo, BassamFellows, Tom Fereday and Nic Graham. These strong partnerships enable Stellar Works to move seamlessly between preserving iconic design references and creating contemporary, culturally rich furniture that reflects an ethos of quality. The team keeps the work of 20th-century greats such as Vilhelm Wohlert and Carlo Forcolini in active production, maintaining the integrity of the design vision and updating methods and materials respectfully only when it represents a clear improvement.
For more than a century, Billiani has been known for a masterful fusion of design originality and crafting excellence. The company began in 1911, with distinctive timber chairs that set a new standard for comfort, beauty and quality. The exceptional trade skills and dedication of Italy’s artisans have been carefully preserved and passed down through the years.
Over the decades, the design sensibility has also flourished from these strong roots, grounded in honourable traditions of furniture making and enhanced with a sense for how objects and humans interact within a place.
Now the fourth generation of the family, architecture-trained Luigi Billiani and his wife Veronik Romanutti are bringing this exceptional heritage to the world, including Australia. The contemporary range available through Space includes divans, chairs, tables, accessories, benches, stools and pouffes. Together with Stellar Works, the addition of Billiani is a natural extension for Space Commercial’s offer, bringing new visions for interior excellence into the company’s repertoire of solutions.
