Kohler Artist Editions range of basins

Art, colour and texture have entered the sleek, monochromatic world of bathrooms in a big way – think Chinese imagery of circa 475BC, bronze Greek artefacts of 6th century BC and ancient tribal rain drums from south east Asia.

Each has lent its inimitable imagery, mysticism and sheer exoticism to an Artist Editions range of basins. Global bathroom specialist, Kohler, has used the world’s cultural history to inspire a collection of freestanding and undermount basins that add colour, texture, mood and inspiration to a bathroom while using today’s technology to ensure the surface is hard-wearing and easy to clean.

Serpentine Bronze, for example, is a circular basin inspired by a Chinese bronze model from 475 to 221BC. The surface of the bowl features an intricate pattern of turtles, fish and entwined serpents in a matte and glossy raised enamel finish. The richly patterned basin, on a Sandbar background, exudes an exotic and beautifully aged patina.

A completely different take on cultural artefact – and truly a statement piece – is the sculptural, freestanding Kamala basin. Inspired by ancient tribal rain drums the wide, shallow basin features sacred symbols of alternating bands of dots, ridges, scrolls and links in a low-relief bronzed finish. The patterned bowl culminates in a ring of columns that direct the water’s flow towards the integrally cast waste.

And for sheer, organic drama check out the Katagami Wading Pool – a low-profiled vessel in cast bronze that features a subtle wildflower motif in bas-relief at its base. And being of bronze, the beautiful patina of the bronze is forever changing.

Most of the Kohler Artist Editions bathroom basins are made from the highest quality vitreous china – with the exception of bowls such as the Katagami. Each can be perfectly teamed with a number of taps from the Kohler range of bathroom mixers.

The Kohler Artist Editions range of bathroom basins are available from Mico.
