How Winc stays ahead in healthy, flexible workspaces

Winc is a workplace solutions company, standing as a market leader in office furnishings and supplies, and when it came time to refresh its own workplace the company knew it would require a special touch.

The Company

Winc is one of Australia’s largest workplace solutions companies, having established itself as a company who talks the talk and walks the walk when it comes to the sourcing, packaging and delivery of everything a workplace needs to work. From office, kitchen and cleaning supplies to technology solutions and business support services, Winc supports countless organisations spanning a variety of industries across the country.

The Journey

Being a market-defining producer of office furnishings and supplies, the company itself needs to stay at the cutting-edge of the latest design trends, particularly those focusing on the consolidation of space and collaboration. After reviewing the layout, flow, and usage of its own workspaces, the Winc team decided a total refresh and redesign was in order, to boost productivity, foster a more collaborative place to work, and more accurately reflect the company’s philosophy of providing the best for modern businesses.

With extensive experience in collaborative workspaces, Business Interiors, which is a part of Winc, was the natural choice to take on the challenge. A cross-departmental team of both Winc team members and Business Interiors experts, nicknamed The Block, was tasked to design the overall fit-out concept and specify furniture solutions. Finally, external design experts at PMG Group were brought in to finalise the design and review concepts, as well as provide coding approvals.

As the future of workspaces become increasingly flexible, Winc wanted to reflect this, doing away with traditional workstations or old-world cubicles, instead embracing agile working through a hot-desk driven layout. Fostering collaboration was the challenge at the heart of this redesign. The team wanted their workspace to flow freely, encouraging teamwork and the ability for people from different departments to work together as needed, without barriers.

The Solution

Business Interiors knew that hot-desking would be key to the success of the project, as well as optimising floor space by creating rooms that would function as both formal meeting rooms and collaborative areas.

A welcoming aesthetic was created through the use of rounded acoustic panels on desks, making for a softer appearance as well as added functionality. Ultimately this resulted in more open space and greater accessibility for collaboration across workstations. A curated selection of loose furniture with designs from Pedrali elevated the feeling and function of informal meeting rooms, encouraging more ‘casual collisions’ between co-workers.

Private work areas included acoustic booths and slatted meeting areas with screens, while open areas were fitted out with high tables, ottomans, and a range of other furnishings as a way to enable and encourage staff to have conversations or brief meetings away from their desks.

Business Interiors took the entire task in its stride and ended up delivering a diverse, open-plan workplace where team members could interact and collaborate in a casual environment.

The Result

As experts in the furnishings sector, Business Interiors team members were able to leverage their knowledge of interior design, space planning and project management to deliver a highly functional workplace. The partnership with PMG Group in the finalisation of the layout and amenities added to the success of the space, and likewise ensured that everything was up to code.

For Winc and its team members, the result is a vibrant and open office space that reflects the core values of the company; collaboration, function, aesthetics, and inspiration within the workspace. The company too valued that Business Interiors naturally met the strict time frame of the refresh, and even came in under budget, all while the fit-out itself kept disruptions to a minimum, so staff could continue operating with little to no hindrance.

The result of all the hard work is a space-saving, adaptable and collaborative workspace that fosters strong communication between teams. Business Interiors’ first-hand knowledge of Winc’s business aspirations meant it immediately understood the direction Winc wanted to go, and now both teams can enjoy the fruits of their own labour.
