Life as we know it has changed forever and for designer Lucy Marczyk there is much excitement as she has made a very major move and stepped out on her own. Lucy has just launched her new design practice and it’s named (yes you guessed it) LUCY MARCZYK!

With an extraordinary amount of experience, Marczyk has the credentials to make this a successful and exciting venture and already new projects are on the board.

As a designer and creative director, Marczyk has completed a plethora of commissions that range from single and multi residential, commercial, retail and hospitality projects as well as installation and concept design – however she is not defined by boundaries and is also an art director, product designer, design reporter and art advisor.

Marczyk has always been a creative, involved with the performing arts as a child, graduating to woodwork classes in senior school. This experience in making led her to RMIT in Melbourne where she studied Furniture Design and then interior design.

While still at RMIT Marczyk’s first big break came about through an acquaintance who was a diamond dealer. He asked her to re-design his Royal Arcade jewellery store in Melbourne and, although his clientele was conservative by nature, Marczyk convinced him to move out of his comfort zone and re-designed his brand as well as the interior. On completion the store featured bespoke chandeliers, a Häfele StealthLock system within the cabinetry (the first time this system was used in Australia) and an overall re-brand. The project was a total success with an increase in sales as well as attracting a new demographic of client, but it was through this transformative project that Marczyk realised just how important design is and how it can benefit people and business.

Before completing her interior design studies, Marczyk applied and was accepted to work at Bruce Henderson Architects. Here the young designer was exposed to a wide variety of opportunities that included hospitality, hotel, residential, multi residential and institutional projects. No two projects were the same and the experience proved invaluable as Marczyk worked with the team to design a Toorak residence in St Georges Road, hotel projects in New Zealand, Dubai and Vanuatu, Emerald House for Harold Mitchell, a social housing project in Ringwood for the Erdigroup and 140 Gipps Street, a multi residential project with Salta.

After some five years, Marczyk moved to Nexus Designs, the iconic practice headed by design luminary Janne Faulkner AM. The seven years Marczyk was with the practice honed her skill in designing many residential projects and also provided much travel to such places as New York, Thailand, Italy and Singapore. There were noteworthy projects such as the MV Sorrento ferry, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars showroom in Melbourne for the Zagame Automotive Group, the Robert Bruce Super Yacht and a restaurant and café in Thailand, not the usual type of project, but certainly perfect for Marczyk. With so much experience under her belt Marczyk had indeed proved herself an all round fabulous designer who also happened to like commissions that were a little bit different.

Moving to her next position as Creative Director of Interior Design with Cera Stribley Architects, Marczyk enjoyed the chance to collaborate with Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio on Rondure House, was involved with the Victorian showrooms of Winning Appliances and a multitude of multi residential, commercial and retail projects.

But now it’s time for Lucy Marczyk to shine within her own practice and under her own brand. Currently the design dynamo is commencing projects in Melbourne, Sydney, London and Toronto for commercial, hospitality and residential clients. She is also collaborating on an arts project with photographers in Russia and Thailand, working to develop design concepts for the shared economy and designing a product for manufacture.

As if life isn’t busy enough, Marczyk is making the most of every opportunity and looking to the future for a new design dawn. As with everything that she has already achieved, Marczyk will be a great success with her new practice.  Believe me when I tell you that LUCY MARCZYK will be a driving force in the world of design and we can all vicariously enjoy the adventure with her.
