Nonda Katsalidis drop in on Federation Square for National Architecture Week.
October 22nd, 2010
Unitised™ archiPad will be descending upon Federation Square in Melbourne as part of National Architecture Week in October.
Making itself at home there for an entire week, the one-bedroom apartment will be open to the public, showcasing how architecture can arrive at a sustainable and design-driven solution to house Australia’s growing population.
The building’s technology, developed by renowned architect Nonda Katsalidis, boasts fast construction time, minimal waste and a reduction in costs by incorporating prefabricated manufacturing processes.
“The Unitised™ archiPad showcases the ability to design and build high density housing that is both affordable and sustainable, while maintaining design integrity,” says coordinator of NAW, architect Shelley Roberts.
“The wide range of applications is something our industry is very excited about”.
The apartment on show is just one piece of ‘The Nicholson’ project, which is part of Government developer VicUrban’s residential development.
Designed by Architects DesignInc on the site of a disused tram depot in Coburg, the $80 million development comprises 200 dwellings in total, a number of which will be funded by the Federal Government’s Nation Building initiative.
Enter the apartment in Federation Square and you’ll be just about ready to move in – all internal fixtures, fittings and appliances are already installed as well as carpet, painted walls, a balcony and to top it off, a front door.
The exhibition is held between 24 -30 October 2010.
