Collaboration is the new individualism in Canberra, with the launch of the capital’s latest creative collective
November 26th, 2009
M16 Gallery’s industrial Foyer sets the scene for the launch of the exciting new collaboration between Canberra designers Craig Rex Harris, Jas Hugonnet and Richard Thomas.
With backgrounds in fine furniture, architecture and graphic design respectively, the group focuses on designing elegant but functional objects available at affordable prices.
Craig Rex Harris’ brings his craftsmanship in fine furniture to the creation of the ‘multi trivet’ – an item that serves to protect tables from hot plates, created from American Oak off cuts.
The table lamp ‘tuba’, designed by Jas Hugonnet, is formed from a single sheet of Polypropylene, delicately folded to achieve a harmonious undulating shade.
The third instalment in the trilogy of works is the ‘satellite dish’, in which Richard Thomas sets a glass bowl over an overturned timber bowl, crafted from Tasmanian Blackwood off cuts.
The designs will be available for purchase or to order on Friday, 27 November at the Foyer Gallery M16 Artspace, from 6 pm.
