Can Architects Design Furniture, Too?

European architects have been designing furniture for years. Think of Le Corbusier or Mies van der Rohe. More recently, architects such as Sir Norman Foster or Frank Gehry come to mind. Now its Rigmarole, courtesy of March Studio from Down Under.

The ‘seeds’ for Rigmarole, the furniture arm of Melbourne-based architectural practice March Studio, started two years ago. Soon to be formally launched, Rigmarole offers locally designed and manufactured furniture for both the commercial and domestic markets. For years, March Studio has supplied its own designer furniture for hospitality and other commercial clients. However, seeing a gap in the domestic market, as well as building on its experimentation in its architectural projects, Rigmarole has slowly evolved. And rather than being restricted by lengthy import delays and a restricted choice of materials, Rigmarole can customise furniture to suit the local market.
