Suiseki – lounges inspired by Japanese stones

Inspired by the Japanese rocks that bear their name, the Suiseki collection from laCividina find the beauty in spontaneous, harmonious lack of alignment.

In traditional Japanese culture, suiseki refers to the art of arranging naturally occurring stones. This was the inspiration behind Italian design house laCividina’s lounge collection that bares its name and the natural and geological volumes that inspired the range are clear from even first glance.

The striking lack of alignment recalls the concept of wabi sabi – the beauty in imperfection. Yet this is no haphazard design – the Suiseki range is a modular lounge system that’s as functionally comfortable as it is aesthetically pleasing.

Everything starts with three core building blocks: a low, broad seat, a backrest and armrests.‎ These pieces are then combined with each other in an offset display of heights, widths and depths.‎ The resulting lounge pieces then become reminiscent of sculptures as much they do functional places to rest.

The backrest is the hero of the Suiseki lounge, giving the appearance of a backdrop pushing beyond the perimeter of the armrests and extending towards the platform-like seat in a display of reversed volumes. laCividina’s masterful manual workmanship ensures all elements are covered and stitched to convey the distinctive qualities of a natural sculpture.

The modules in the collection are available in various sizes that can be connected to create flexible, dynamic combinations which replace classic shapes and configurations with unique, playful arrangements.

The modular nature of the collection means any space or interior style can be enhanced by a Suiseki lounge – from residential living rooms, to office breakout spaces, cozy café interiors and more.

Suiseki is designed to bring out the best in a space. Its quintessential Italian quality guarantees long-lasting performance while its modularity enables a greater scope for furnishing a range of spaces.

The Suiseki collection is available upholstered in a singular fabric or can be freely combined with a selection of different fabrics from ownworld.
