{small} bytes of happiness acknowledges mental health month

The next {small} bytes of happiness session will be light and practical, presented by Krisztina Javor of ReachOut, attendees will walk away with helpful suggestions on building or rebuilding feelings of strength and resilience in challenging times.

In New South Wales, October is recognised as mental health month, an initiative encouraging the wider community to think about their own mental health, as well as that of others. It provides us with an opportunity to understand the importance of good mental health and receiving or being genuine support.

In the midst of a global pandemic that in Australia has resulted in state border closures and various levels of lockdown restrictions, this year more support is needed than ever. In response, the next {small} bytes of happiness event – to take place Wednesday 30 September – will be 5 pillars of Wellbeing with Krisztina Javor from ReachOut.

ReachOut first launched their mental health digital support system more than 20 years ago and in the years since it has become Australia’s most accessed online mental health service for young people and their parents, with more than 2 million users each year.

Championing free and wide-reaching access to mental health services and support, ReachOut offers self-help information, peer support programmes for family and friends of those experiencing mental health challenges, and referral tools.

Since releasing COVID-19 specific support in mid-March, visitation across ReachOut’s services has increased by 50 per cent (compared with the same period in 2019).

The {small} bytes session will be light and straightforward, focusing on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing as well as suggestions on how people can build or rebuild feelings of strength and resilience in challenging times.

The presentation-style event will be run by Krisztina Javor, Corporate Partnership Manager of ReachOut, and cover practical takeaways that one is able to easily and immediately implement.

As mentioned above, the 5 pillars of wellbeing are:

  1. Connect
  2. Be active
  3. Take notice
  4. Keep learning
  5. Give
