Belgian designers Limited Edition are challenging the idea of carpets as a project afterthought by crafting floors into fashion statements.
September 21st, 2015
Traditionally speaking, flooring is one of the last parts of a project to be considered; almost like icing on the cake. We often forget about our floors, even though they are quite literally, the foundation of our homes and offices.
Belgian designers, Limited Edition, are driving a change to this mindset, by developing carpets with cult status – making carpets into fashion statements.
Led by Creative Director Katia De Witte, Limited Edition is making flooring cool. Behind every rug, there is the customer’s story, but also the talent of Limited Edition designers and developers. Their unconditional love of materials, textures, designs and trends ensures that each rug is informed by fashion and style.
In this digital age, it may surprise you that many steps in the rug making process are still manual, and the limited Edition process is markedly similar to how a fashion house operates. Katia notes that: “We start by sketching the collections with pencil and paper, much like a fashion designer might. Our craftspeople then use small handlooms for weaving the new designs and then our hand tufters get to work until all the pieces of the jigsaw fit together.”
Of course, even though they do the work by hand, that does not mean they approach things exactly the way it was done 100 years ago. At Limited Edition, craftsmanship and innovative technology go hand-in-hand.
Much like fashion, every person has there own style. And that is what Limited Edition allows you to do – to create your own liveable style signature. Limited Edition for example, has its own yarn dyeing studio. “We see it as a bit of a playground,” says Katia, “where we get to enjoy mixing different colours to get just the right custom shade for our clients,” – a process and approach not unlike a high-end fashion house.
Do you like the natural charm of wool, the soft sheen of silk or the extravagant elegance of cowhide? Do you love innovative vintage with contemporary retro colours? Or are you looking for strong graphic designs or ethnic patterns? Limited Edition is happy to create a rug according to your wishes when you need it. You get to choose from a wide range of materials and unlimited shapes, colours, dimensions and designs. With Limited Edition, you will never be at a loss for inspiration, “Our Craftsmanship, Your Imagination.”
