Sustainable and practical design by emerging Australian designers was showcased at Launch Pad 2015, with finalists presenting us with everything from stairs to salt and pepper shakers.

On Thursday night, August 13, the Launch Pad exhibition kicked off Sydney Indesign in style, showcasing the 12 finalists’ work. Young Henry’s and The Collective Wine Company kept the drinks flowing and all guests enjoyed Woofy’s hot dogs.

The winner of the competition, Alana Birch, took out the main prize for her innovative BB-liney Coat Racks. Thanks to our generous sponsors Alana won a $10,000 grant to develop her prototype, mentoring sessions, personalised production plan management and media and PR support. She also took home a gorgeous trophy designed and manufactured by Program Partner, JP Finsbury.

The BB-liney Coat Racks were designed with renters in mind. With rubber stoppers and no installation needed, they allow for extra storage with even the strictest of landlords. The coat racks were also noted for their lyrical and simple style.

Alex Fitzpatrick with his accent light, Eon and Zev Bianchi and his space-saving BCompact Stairs, took out the prizes for runners up. Each won $1000 and a stunning trophy from JP Finsbury.
