Reflecting the burgeoning talent of local designers and Cafe Culture + Insitu's commitment to supporting Australian design, the fourth instalment of our Spotlight series explores the philosophy and designs of Christel H, Savage Design and Luschia Porter.

Gone are the days where the inclusion of Australian design in a catalogue dominated by imports is an act of charity – in today’s landscape, local products are both economically and aesthetically competitive.

Three strong examples of this are the design studios Christel H, Savage Design and Luschia Porter.

Christel H

Founded by Christel Hadiwibawa, ChristelH is a creative studio that specialises in the design and creation of furniture, lighting, and conceptual design projects. The studio’s core values are quality, creativity and lifestyle, and the belief that it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Christel’s design philosophy centres on the notion of ‘playful sophistication’: pairing engagement and connection with the beautiful resolution of the materials and concepts behind the designs. The vision of ChristelH is to continue developing new methods of producing work that educates, informs and enhances the lifestyle of the user.

Quality – Combining high performance with impeccable craftsmanship, Savage strive to create beautiful metal furniture and original homewares of the highest grade.
Originality – Savage’s unique vision is innate in all of their product ideas and metal furniture designs. Whether a client shops from their collection or comes to them for personalised product designs and solutions, they will immediately see that their approach to the design process makes them stand out from the rest.
Creativity – The driving force behind Savage’s need to discover and create. Savage look for creativity in every aspect of their lives and are fortunate to do so in their work as well. The highly distinctive look of Savage’s pieces makes them one-of-a-kind, while the emotional response they evoke makes them unforgettable.
Passion – Savage’s love for what they do can be seen and felt in the pieces they produce. It’s their passion that commits them to designing creative, original and high quality homewares and pieces of metal furniture.
