Presented by Tarkett
January 30th, 2022
Beyond lockdowns, social distancing, and increased hand-washing, the ongoing pandemic has led to an increased understanding of the general importance of sanitation.
While much of this (including all the above measures) is well-founded, some aspects of the trend are not based on the best scientific evidence; indeed, some have been counterproductive.
This is particularly true when it comes to bacterial control (as distinct from the control of viruses like COVID-19). In this sphere, we have seen an increase in the use antimicrobials. Formulated to destroy or control harmful organisms, these can be found in several building products, including some flooring.
The problem with these products is that, while they do kill bacteria, they also allow some strains to develop resistance. In addition, there is no evidence that they actually improve health outcomes.
What is the alternative to antimicrobial products? And what are the best ways to keep floors in sensitive settings clean? This session will answer these questions and more.
