Whether rookie or veteran, it’s certainly undeniable that our industry thrives on getting together, being social, and using design as a tool for creating communities.

As you read this, some lucky fledgling designers are about to have their lives changed. You see, for the past 16 years, Launch Pad has stood as a shining example of how we can foster the next generation of creative talent across the full spectrum of our region. And while our Launch Pad Jury is currently busy inspecting, evaluating and being amazed by the creativity and innovation of the emerging talent brave enough to enter the program, it has become clear that never has the bar been set quite so high.
Considered one of Australia’s leading taste-makers in the field of design, Aidan Mawhinney of Living Edge has worked alongside the Launch Pad program since its inception. As one of the program’s founding partners, Mawhinney returns in 2017 as a member of our Official Launch Pad jury. Through having such a longstanding close relationship with the evolution of the program over the years, Mawhinney’s advice to those seeking to break into the market is invaluable:
“First, research is key”, he tells us. “Know everything about your product – and not just the design and basic costing, […but also] what materials you use, how it is to be manufactured, how similar products are manufactured, where the materials are sourced from [and] alternative products that can be used”.
In the hopes of taking these new designs on a journey from prototype through to production, for 2017, Launch Pad is joining the inaugural INDE.Awards to help elevate Asia Pacific design on the global stage. And, as the Official INDE.Awards Social Space Partner, Living Edge is taking their commitment to nurturing tomorrow’s design one step further. As the exclusive distributor for some of the world’s most renowned brands and ground-breaking designs, Team Living Edge truly understand that some of the most impressive spaces are those where people interact and play – using design as the all important fulcrum of bringing us together in communality. They’re on the lookout for this region’s very best space for precisely that – communality – but also a space that tells a story, captures the imagination of its visitors, and brings us all together. In more ways than one, Living Edge’s collections evocatively convey this, through a curated object range, created by leading international and local designers.
Living Edge – an Australian frontrunner and definite design hot-spot for architects, interior designers and design enthusiasts – is dedicated to offering only the best in design whether from the minute single piece in one’s home to the mammoth design schemes on large scale commercial projects. With Mawhinney at the helm, Living Edge continues to seek out brands that represent the zenith of design quality.
All of us at Indesign Media wish to thank both Aidan Mawhinney and the team at Living Edge for helping nurture the future of design in our region.
Join Living Edge at the inaugural INDE.Awards this June, and rub shoulders with tomorrow’s design greats.
