Two Studio and UFM Solutions bring dynamic new learning spaces to Sydney’s Marian College.
April 10th, 2012
Inspired by Shigeru Ban’s Nine Square Grid House, the Learning Centre at Marian College eschews the traditional enclosed classroom format.
Instead, Two Studio and UFM Solutions have used flexible furniture and purpose-built columns and bulkheads to divide one large space into eight flexible and adaptable learning environments.
Supporting a contemporary pedagogy for the school, the design challenges traditional constraints of teaching and explores the creative potential of the learning process.
Each learning area suits a different style of teaching and learning – from collaborative spaces to areas for quite reflection or structured presentations.
Teachers are able to book spaces according to what is necessary for their lesson.
Flexible, multi-purpose furniture allows teachers and students to take control of their environment and engage in the creation of dynamic, exciting spaces for learning.
