In 1999 Hettich launched their ‘Kitchen Concept 2010’, displaying innovations that, ten years later, are a reality in many homes. This year, however, Hettich launched their latest concept for the kitchen of 2015.
Recognising the changing role of the kitchen within the home, ‘Kitchen Concept 2015’ explores notions of flexibility, innovation and technology in this latest model.
As kitchens move away from being a sort of separate centrepiece, to being an integral part of everything we do in the home, so must their design.
With its trend forecast for kitchen and home environments, Hettich draws on experience in electric kitchen furniture elements and demonstrates possibilities in many application scenarios. Ideas from project studies and cutting-edge technologies are evident everywhere in the concept design.
The kitchen incorporates flush-fitting fronts, which electrically retract on demand, opening up work surfaces and revealing electric shelves that lower at a touch to reveal stored items and appliances.
Drawers are accessible from both sides of an island bench, including the dishwasher drawers; meaning they can be easily accessed, no matter which side of the work centre the user is standing. In the kitchen of 2015 socialising with friends and preparing a meal are no longer mutually exclusive enjoyments.
Understanding the impact of the iPod generation, the kitchen also has a number of multimedia and interactive technologies, from surfaces that double as touch screens – providing access to the internet, television and controls – to appliances that can ‘communicate’ with each other.
The hob is no longer a static element, with digitally resizable hotplates that can change to suit the size and shape of the pot or pan you wish to use.
The aim of the entire kitchen is to provide functional furniture and appliances that, when not in use, can easily be hidden away – everything from faucets to the oven can retract, leaving clear clean surfaces free of visual clutter.
As Hettich says: “‘Kitchen Concept 2015’ aims to provide kitchen furniture and white-goods manufacturers with inspiration for taking the kitchen forward as the hub of the home.”
Perhaps the best way to understand all the elements of the ‘Kitchen Concept 2015’ is to take a look at the video below.
