At InterfaceFLOR’s Aware House, designers were given 18 – 30 sqm of space and a tool box of yarn, fluff, unbacked carpet & cloth backing.

InterfaceFLOR’s new facility “Aware House” in the United States, is an impressive space, housing a number of installations where carpet comes to life, designed to promote the creative use of carpet.

For Aware House’s first public showing, top US design firms were given 18 – 30 square metres of space and a tool box of yarn, carpet fluff, unbacked carpet, cloth backing and carpet tiles. They were invited to take up the challenge to create an installation made of carpet and carpet derived materials, and were given no restrictions. In conjunction with Interior Design, the first Idea Lab project was born.

Design concept: Duo toned image of a naked woman (on LHS) playing a cat’s cradle. The lights are the end of the story.

Design concept: A sitting room with cloth covered vintage Bauhaus furniture and organic wood tones throughout.

Design concept: Carpet as the industrial material for all surfaces – the ceiling, the floor, the bed and bedhead and feature walls.

Design concept:  A kaleidoscope of flowers made from carpet tiles, plywood and cleverly positioned mirrors. In Spanish, the translation for “flor” is flower.
