One of Australia’s leading jewellers Mari Funaki, and celebrated arts advocate Emeritus Professor David Williams AM, have been honoured with the 2007 Australia Council for the Arts’ Visual Arts Emeritus Award and the Visual Arts Emeritus Medal respectively.

Professor Ted Snell, chair of the Australia Council’s visual arts board presented the two arts luminaries with the awards at a ceremony in Sydney today in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

The Visual Arts Emeritus awards are among Australia’s most prestigious individual arts awards, recognising outstanding contributions to the sector.

Workshopped 2008 Call for Entries

Applications are now open for 2008 Workshopped exhibition, co-presented by the Powerhouse Museum during Sydney Design 08 in August.

Approximately 1,000 people will attend opening night on Tuesday 5 August and over 50,000 will see the exhibition during its two week season.

For the first time outside Australia, two of Australia’s most recognised design companies have opened their combined showroom in Auckland.

Corporate Culture is known for its collection of designer furniture and homewares from international designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Karim Rashid and Louise Campbell.

Designer Rugs specialise in classic and traditional hand knot and contemporary hand tufted rugs for the latest in interior styling.

The companies officially opened the much anticipated new showroom, located at 73 The Strand Parnell, Auckland on February 28th.

Portraying Architecture
Most people experience architecture via images in a magazine. The image conditions the way we see, and understand a building. This talk will look at several projects which have been photographed in different ways, and discuss the rationale behind why magazine editors select some images over others. It will also look at different types of photography form architecture to lifestyle, and discuss what type of image works best in different situations. Including David Clark, Editor Australian Vogue Living, Dr Paul McGillick, Editorial Director of Indesign Publishing, Heidi Dokulil and Brett Boardman, with introduction by Sam Marshall.

After more than 20 years in the Australian furniture industry, John Moran’s only son, James, has started his own new business, James Moran Interiorstyle.

James has just opened his new showroom in Melbourne, showcasing a combination of traditional and modern contemporary.

“My father’s business was always synonymous with quality, style and sophistication, and he really knew what a good lounge should look like,” said James.
