WORKSHOPPED, just might be the longest continuously running annual exhibition of emerging Australian design. In its 15th year, it reaches a milestone.
May 21st, 2015
For the past 15 years the WORKSHOPPED exhibitions have provided a platform for Australian designers to reach national and international manufacturer, retailer and consumer audiences. To date WORKSHOPPED has presented the work of over 350 Australian designers through 14 exhibitions, viewed by over 550,000 people.
This year will be WORKSHOPPED’s 15th exhibition. Each year designers are asked to respond to a brief – this year, the role of design in architecture. The work of approximately 50 designers will be showcased and exposed to an audience of 60,000+ over a 3-week period.
WORKSHOPPED has had an impact and made a difference to the careers of many Australian designers. Kate Stokes first exhibited her Coco Pendant in WORKSHOPPED 2010. The stunning Melbourne made light has rightly received enormous media attention and is regularly featured in design media. Most importantly it now graces many local and international homes and has been widely used in commercial contexts – a real Australian design success story.
While WORKSHOPPED can’t lay direct claim to the success of Kate and Coco Flip, WORKSHOPPED Director, Raymond Scott, says it’s been an important part of the journey for many. “We’ve been a part of the early, mid and mature career stages of hundreds of Australian designers. It’s fantastic watching the evolution of Australian designers and their products. It takes many years to build a professional profile as a designer and we’ve been excited to work with designers like Kate, Adam Goodrum, Gary Galego, Life Space Journey’s Justin Lamont, Henry Wilson and Evie Groups Alex Gilmour and Dominic Chong.”
“We’re really looking forward to seeing both new and old faces in WORKSHOPPED 15″. Applications are now open and we’re in the process of selecting approximately 50 designers for the three week exhibition to be held at Supa Centa Moore Park, Sydney, in August”
WORKSHOPPED 15 asks designers to consider Design in Architecture. How does your design relate to contemporary Architecture…locally and internationally?
