The second annual prefabAUS conference is fast approaching, with this year’s event focusing on the theme of ‘industry transformation’.
September 8th, 2015
prefabAUS has assembled industry experts from around the world to discuss how prefabricated construction is changing the design, building and manufacturing industries.
CEO of prefabAUS Warren McGregor stresses the importance of change for Australia’s construction industry. “We cannot allow construction in the 21st century to continue to operate as if it were stuck in some kind of sanctuary,” McGregor says. “Against the familiarity of in situ construction, incremental change will be hard and of modest benefit. Only through truly transforming the industry can the enormous potential of prefabrication be realised.”
With prefab industries already widely established across Japan, Europe, USA and UK, Australia’s own sector is at long last emerging from the alternate to being at the forefront of the mainstream market.
Key issues to be addressed at this year’s conference include the benefits prefab construction can bring to infrastructure sectors such as health and education.
Among the speakers this year will be Aladin Niazmand, Director of Health Planning & Healthcare Architecture at Health Projects International, and Rob Adams, Director of City Planning at City of Melbourne, who will speak to the role prefabricated construction will play in the future of Australian cities.
Other speakers confirmed to appear include Dr Dale Steinhardt and Dr Karen Manley, Prefabricated Sustainable Housing Research Project, QUT; John Wardle, founder and principal at John Wardle Architects; Laurice Temple, CEO of The National Association of Women in Construction; Ken McBryde, principal at HASSELL, and many more leading industry figures.
prefabAUS engages conference attendees to join in the broader conversation on prefabrication to be part of the transformation.
