GECA Hard Surfacing Standard recognised by GBCA for Green Star

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) will recognise products certified against Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA)'s Hard Surfacing Standard at Level A, entitling conforming products to 100% of available Green Star points.

This standard sets an environmental performance benchmark for hard surfacing products such as natural stone, agglomerated stones, concrete paving units, terrazzo tiles, ceramic tiles, clay tiles and glass tiles.

While many exceptional Green Star projects have featured tile or stone, there has been no opportunity to claim Green Star points for use of these products until now. With the Hard Surfacing Standard being recognised by the GBCA, GECA expects to see hard surface manufacturers opting for GECA certification and broadening the market to include a new range of surfaces available to Green Star projects that are eligible to earn full points.

GECA have partnered with the Australian Stone Advisory Association (ASAA) and the Australian Tile Council (ATC) to develop and promote the Hard Surfacing Standard.

Stormtech Ltd., manufacturers of architectural grates and drains, is offering a 50% fee scholarship, valued at $3300, for a young Australian architect (under 30) to participate in the two-week residential 2012 Glenn Murcutt International Architecture Master Class in July.

The twelfth annual Glenn Murcutt Architecture Master Class will take place again in July at 'Riversdale', on the shores of the Shoalhaven River south of Sydney and at the Carriageworks Centre for Contemporary Arts and Culture in Sydney. The now famous program has attracted practising architects, academics, graduates and some senior students from nearly 60 nations since its inception in 2001. Participants will join a great active international family of alumni from all around the world.

The scholarship is offered to a worthy young Australian architect and covers half the cost of the fee of $6600 ($6000 plus 10% GST).
