Brickworks is involved with one of the longest standing and most prestigious design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958: the Good Design Awards.
April 28th, 2015
Bowral Bricks received the Good Design® Selection in the Product Design Category for Hardware and Building and is now in the running to receive the coveted Good Design Award® which will be announced on 29 May in Sydney. The entry consisted of the 320,000 custom-made Bowral Bricks manufactured in the Austral factory in Bowral. Designed and created to compliment the complex textured design of the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building by world renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
Bowral Bricks created the bespoke brick range to compliment the complex textured design of the building’s unique façade design, which is based on the idea of a tree house structure.
A total of five custom-made, buff coloured brick ranges were developed specifically for the build, each range designed to serve a unique purpose and function. The staggering bricks that form the impressive exterior were all hand-made to ensure an uncompromising degree of quality was maintained and Gehry’s highly precise design aesthetic was achieved.
Brett Ward, General Manager of Marketing “We strive to promote excellence in design and innovation and working on such a pioneering and exciting project with Frank Gehry on his first Australian construction marked a milestone for Bowral Bricks. We’re honoured to have been shortlisted for one of most elite design awards in the world and to have our work and contribution to this iconic building recognised.”
Good Design Awards is judged by a panel of thirty-two local, interstate and international judges. The Awards showcase superior examples of good design across a broad range of industries and design disciplines. There are seven main categories for the awards and 25 sub-categories, representing one of the most diverse range of entries in the world. Bowral Bricks has been shortlisted for the Product Design, Hardware and Building Category.
