Stockland wins award for energy efficiency

The City of Sydney Council has awarded property developer Stockland the first ever national award for improving office energy efficiency.

Stockland received the inaugural CitySwitch signatory of the year award.

CitySwitch is an initiative assisting companies leasing office space to improve their energy efficiency. Stockland was commended for being a green market leader demonstrating innovation, for its commitment to pursuing office energy efficiency and ability to find creative solutions.

Stockland's head office has a top 5 star NABERS enery rating, achieved by sub-metering to monitor energy use, motion sensors for lighting, energy efficient appliances, replacing all CRT monitors with flat screen LCDs, timed air-conditioning switches and educated and engaged staff.

Fly Forbo Award Call for Entries

The Fly Forbo Awards are calling for entries from Australia and across the Tasman.

Now in its eighth year, the Fly Forbo Awards recognise outstanding use of Forbo flooring products, with winners awarded a trip for two to Europe, access to 100% Design in London and a visit to the Forbo Design Studios in Holland.

This year, one winning project will be chosen from Australia and one from New Zealand.

"Fly Forbo Award was created to inspire and reward, and we have been truly impressed with the quality of submissions received over the years," said Forbo Managing Director, Wayne Donovan.

"Winners gain a first-hand insight into the latest interior trends in Europe."

Reece BIA 2011 Call for Entries

Reece are calling for entries in their annual Bathroom Innovation Awards (BIA) 2011.

Design professionals and students are asked to design an innovative bathroom design piece from product categories including tapware, showers, toilets, baths, vanity basins and bathroom furniture.

Entrants go in the running to win $35 000 in prize money - $20 000 for the winner of the professional category, $10 000 for the winner of the student category and $5 000 for the winning institution at which the winning student is enrolled.

The judging panel will be revealed in February 2011 and will include industry leaders from design, architecture, retailing and marketing.

Penelope Seidler joins Biennale Board of Directors

Penelope Seidler AM will join the Board of Directors of the Biennale of Sydney.

Seidler, who holds various leadership roles within business and the community, is a long-time supporter of the event, having visited every exhibition since the inaugural Biennale of Sydney in 1973.

"With her, she brings a deep passion for contemporary art and a broad working knowledge of both Australian and international arts organisations," said Biennale Chairman Luca Belgiorno-Nettis.

Of her new appointment, Seidler said: "I am pleased to join the Board of this inspiring institution. I am excited to be working with an organisation that brings contemporary art - something I have been involved with for many years through our architectural practice - to the forefront of public awareness."

The 18th Biennale of Sydney will run from 27 June - 16 September 2012.

AIA announces international speakers for 2011 National Architecture Conference

The Australian Institute of Architects has announced the international speakers confirmed for the 2011 National Architecture Conference.

Architects spanning five continents and three generations will speak at the Australian Institute of Architects' 2011 National Architecture Conference, for which the theme will be 'Natural Artifice'.

Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki of Tokyo's Maki and Associates will headline the annual event. Maki's prolific work includes the World Trade Centre Tower 4 and the Kaze-no-Oka crematorium.

Joining Maki on the speaker's podium will be Finnish architect and author Juhani Pallasmaa of Juhani Pallasmaa Architects, Spanish architect Luis Mansilla of Mansilla+Tuñon Arquitectos, French architect François Roche of R&Sie(n), Colombian architects Luis Callejas and Sebastian Mejia, US architect Lisa Iwamoto of Iwamoto Scott, and Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus of Aires Mateus & Associates.

Prominent Australian architects and thought leaders will also join this stellar line-up at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 14-16 April 2011.

 

Judges announced for Dulux Colour Awards 2011

 

 

Kerry Phelan from KPDO (Kerry Phelan Design Office), Australian fashion designer Kirrily Johnston and Brian Zulaikha of Tonkin Zulaikha Greer have been announced as judges of the 2011 Dulux Colour Awards.

"The Dulux Colour Awards has always acknowledged and awarded creativity in the use of colour and for this reason, I am honoured to be a judge of the 2011 Dulux Colour Awards, Add Your Colours to History campaign," said Phelan.

It's the 25th anniversary of the Dulux Colour Awards, which acknowledge architects, specifiers, designers and students across Australia and the South Pacific for their inspired use of colour.

The winner of each category will receive $1500 in prize money and a trophy. The Grand Prix also includes a return business-class airfare to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City, as well as five nights accommodation.

Entry is now open in six categories for the Dulux Colour Awards: Residential Exterior, Residential Interior, Commercial Exterior, Commercial Interior and Sustainable Interior, as well as the Student category.

Entries close 8 February 2011, with winners to be announced at a ceremony on 30 March 2011 at the Paddington Town Hall.

 

Victor Churchill wins Best Retail at the 2010 Best of Year Awards in NYC

Victor Churchill Fine Family Butcher has taken out Best Retail at the Best of Year Awards 2010.

The 5th Annual Best of Year Awards were held in New York City on 2 December 2010, with Best Retail going to Dreamtime Australia Design for Sydney's Victor Churchill Fine Family Butcher.

Victor Churchill and Vic's Premium Quality Meat CEO Anthony Puharich and his father, Vic's Meat founder Vic Puharich, were thrilled to collect the award at the ceremony at NYC's IAC building.

"I am still overwhelmed that a butcher shop in Woollahra has beaten some of the biggest and best in the world to win Best in Retail," said Anthony.

Michael McCann, Director of Dreamtime Australia Design, was also delighted at the win. "It truly is an honour to receive this prestigious worldwide design award, especially for a small Australian based company," he said.

Italians Massimo Grassi (president of Group Matteograssi) and award-winning architect and designer Franco Poli are partaking in a design seminar to discuss the technical aspects, experiments and future of their designs.

Having truly revolutionised the geometric concept and technological application of leather in furniture design, Matteograssi is celebrating 130 years. They started as a humble manufacturer of leather and accessories and have evolved into one of the world’s most innovative developers of the material for furniture design.

The seminar will be followed with drinks and canapés afterwards.
