The 2014 Red Dot winners have been announced and Electrolux have taken home not just one, but four of these prestigious design awards.
April 1st, 2014
Among these was the Red Dot: Best of the Best, which is seen as the ultimate accolade in the world of design and was awarded to the new Electrolux Ergorapido. The three other Red Dot awards presented to Electrolux were for their UltraCaptic, UltraOne and Rapido vacuums.
The “Red Dot” is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design. Since 1955, the Red Dot has been awarded for excellent international design and the jury appraises the products according to different criteria such as innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, sustainability, symbolic and emotional content and whether a product is self-explanatory.
A jury consisting of 40 design professionals from 25 countries has come together to test, assess, criticize and discuss the 4,815 entries for the 2014 Red Dot Awards in the Product Design discipline. Only 1.5% of all entries were awarded the highest award in the competition, the Red Dot: Best of the Best. Electrolux, were of course among these esteemed few.
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award, explains why the competition is constantly rising in significance at an international level: “The Red Dot Award: Product Design gives design professionals from all over the world a chance to measure themselves against each other. Year after year, this results in a higher level of design and also motivates the participants to enter their best products in the competition.”
Red Dot: Best of the Best
The Red Dot: Best of the Best is awarded for groundbreaking design. Only the outstanding products of a category receive this highest distinction of the competition. In 2014, only 1.5% of all submissions to the Red Dot Award: Product Design were honoured with the Red Dot: Best of the Best.
