Pine needles – plastic or pure – aren’t everyone’s cup of tea at Christmas. So when Surya Graf and Alexander Lotersztain looked at repeating the success of their 2006 Spark project they turned their attention to reinventing that most iconic of trees.
The pair teamed up with David Shaw and Bjorn Rust to create Branch Out – a program, once again, aimed at promoting “design and cross-fertilisation among some of the best creative thinkers and industry in South East Queensland”.
The team set a challenge to 12 of Brisbane’s top creative studios to create designs for unique Christmas Trees – with size the only limitation (two metres high and one metre across).
Those invited to participate included everyone from Architects to Advertising companies. Held in a converted warehouse in West End’s river precinct on 4 December the exhibition presented 12 very different and unusual tree designs [pictured below].
“Branch Out proved to be another memorable landmark event that brought together creatives with professionals from diverse industries. It was a celebration of design excellence, a party, and a chance to meet, mingle and exchange ideas, while also creating a focus on the Brisbane creative community,” say the organisers.
