Woodhead and Living Edge for Earth Hour

Woodhead and Living Edge for Earth Hour

Switching off for sustainability.

For the second year in a row, Woodhead and Living Edge are teaming up to celebrate sustainable practices in design and architecture.

A a symbolic stand against the effects of climate change, their collaboration coincides with Earth Hour, an eco initiative started in Sydney in 2007 calling for the synchronised switch off of the city’s lights for a one-hour period.

Dubbed “Earth Hour Every Hour” the Woodhead/Living Edge programme is inspired by the Earth Hour call to action, showing that one person can make a difference.

For the month of March, the design industry duo will be supporting the upcoming Earth Hour 2010 via a series of talks inspired by sustainability – part of a larger programme of events implemented across both organisations – from brainstorming a ‘Green Wall’ design for the balcony area of their office, through to a zero waste picnic planned in Perth’s Kings Park.

Celebrating the hour of darkness on Saturday 27 March, Woodhead and Living Edge supported by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Indesign will be hosting a candlelight cocktail party in the city of Sydney as the culmination of a month-long series of talks, events and initiatives.

Bringing with him his illuminating research on the Antarctic, the architect turned writer Alasdair McGregor will be guest speaking by candlelight at the Orbit Bar for the occasion, 47 floors up over the city from where guests can experience the city’s darkness descending.

In 2009 over 4000 cities in 88 countries around the globe supported the Earth Hour movement.
