The LANDscapers

Brisbane comes to life with the travelling LANDscapers exhibition

Brisbane has come to life. An animated exhibition named LANDscapers, formed out of a white inflatable garden, is spreading its flowering tendrils across our dense urban environment.

This sculpture literally “landscapes” its immediate surroundings, inhabiting a space as though it were a thriving organic form.

This three-dimensional semi-abstract garden is the accomplishment of Sunshine Coast-based artists Nicole Voevodin-Cash and Elizabeth Woods, who have energised the urban sprawl.

Elizabeth Woods describes herself as a public artist, rather than an artist who makes private art for public space. Her work is focused more on the creative experience than the actual objects produced.

Likewise, Nicole Voevodin-Cash’s creations concentrate on the senses; her practice uses interaction as a springboard for sculptural strategy.

Managed by Artisan - idea:skill:product, LANDscapers was launched at the 2009 Ideas Festival on March 26th at the State Library of Queensland.

Throughout 2009, this engaging sculptural work will generate discussion about water and energy resources, sustainability and creative thinking through transforming and engaging public spaces across Brisbane.

The transient, lucent vines will remain in each location for only a few days. Disappearing and reappearing in a new urban locality, the ethereal composition will encourage a fresh view of the built environment and its relationship to our natural surrounds.
