Known for developing visual identities and magazine designs for some of Australia’s leading design brands and publishing houses, the team from Studio one8one7 are also behind the hundreds of flags, posters and other merchandise for the Sydney Design 09 program.
When asked to develop the graphic designs, the studio drew inspiration from a shared frustration. “The idea came simply from looking at the city of Sydney street banners and wishing you could read them from the front and the back,” says one8one7.
“It extended quickly into an identity which interacts with the environment it exists in – providing a second glimpse and an added level of user interaction.”
“Like our work with magazines, we consider the way two-dimensional design engages and exists outside of it's printed material; ‘the new interactive’,” they explain.
Sydney Design 09 is now in its 13th year, celebrating everything design and bringing thousands to events throughout the city and to talks, exhibitions and installations at the Powerhouse Museum.
The signage – in the form of advertising posters in bus stands and light post banners – can be seen throughout Sydney’s streets... no matter which direction you’re heading.
