Inspired by the "essence of design-thinking", the Singapore Design Festival was held in November 2007, and displayed Utterubbish.
Commissioned by Design Singapore Council and curated by Jackson Tan of Black Design, ‘Utterubbish: A Collection of UseLess Ideas’, aimed to “use less”, examining the use of recycling, redemption and recourse in design.
The unique experience presented ideas, works and exhibits by 30 leading international and local designers exploring social, cultural, functional, economic, commercial, or intellectual value.
The aim of ‘Utterubbish’ was to demonstrate “in a fun, witty and interactive way that everyone can understand and participate in the design process and how it can create value for ourselves, society and the world.”
Featured designers included fashion house Maison Martin Margiela, Spanish designer Marti Guixé,, MIT’s Media Lab and Treasured Trash from Japan.
