Dubai is Going Green in 2008, with Aussie Help

Australian-based company Ecospecifier International has been invited to take part in Dubai's commitment to sustainable building design

Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and ruler of Dubai – announced in late 2007 that Dubai will be the first Middle Eastern city to place strict environmental standards on all new building projects from January 2008.

This move – an attempt manage climate change – will be done with the assistance of Australian-based company Ecospecifier International, will help.

Invited to be a vital part of the pledge to sustainability, Ecospecifier Directors David Baggs and Mary-Lou Kelly visited the Middle-East in December 2007 to set up an online research tool similar to www.ecospecfier.org for the UAE/Dubai construction industry.

The tool is a comprehensive database and resource system for industry professionals to research verified, eco and health preferred building materials, technologies and fit out products to ensure that sustainable designs will achieve exemplary status in a new green rating world. The site will launch at the end of February.

The Brisbane-based company has been inolved in many major benchmark eco developments, including consultancies in Sri Lanka, East Timor, Australia and China, contributing to new and refurbished projects worth over $AUD5 billion in the last 12 years.
