When 24 Tasmanian product designers responded to a brief to design a product using sustainable practises, the result was an eclectic mix of materials and products.
Following criteria that required the pieces to be affordable (retailing at under $100), functional, innovative and yet sustainable, local designers conceived a range of inspirational works for the occasion.
Amongst the finalists for the prize are a pair of elegantly crafted delicate porcelain cups by Belinda Winkler, cubic wooden salt and pepper shakers by Rye Dunsmuir and sterling silver brooches by Linda Fredheim.
“We were extremely impressed by the originality and quality of entries this year,” said the judges.
“The award continues to attract and challenge the best and brightest designers, producing innovative, practical product ideas.”
Hosted by The Design Centre in Launceston, the awards run parallel with an exhibition of the local designs until 30 November.
Winners will be announced on 27 November.
