Saturday in Design 2009

Another year over, with overwhelming evidence of the creative strength in the local design community.

Okay, we might be a little bit biased. But the general consensus (from a number of independent sources, I might add) was a resounding – “Best one yet!” And we have to agree.

All the elements seemed to drop into place like clockwork, synchronising perfectly to contribute to the event’s success, with visitors and exhibitors alike enjoying and contributing to the buzz.

Transport

To begin with, the weather was an absolute stunner (inspiring a rare “thanks El Niño!”), which made wandering the precincts a pleasure, as did the overall condensing of the event. The buses dropped full loads of chattering visitors at showrooms with a fair amount of precision and there were a host of cool cars shuttling around – stylish Saturday in Design Saabs, super-cute Darlo People Smuggler BMW Minis, K+N CityOffice Audis (a nod to their German heritage) and elegant Electrolux limousines.

Shared Locations

Each showroom celebrated its own character and atmosphere, really creating a unique experience for visitors, through sights, sounds, textures, tastes and smells. The shared locations – PYD Building, PYD Warehouse and Warehouse 625 were a great way to see a number of companies quickly, with displays and stands communicating each brand within.

The Project

The Project has become spectacular and beautiful beast, pulling at the reins of the event and urging the creative community to go faster and further. This infant initiative was just the thing our somewhat battered community needed and the results displayed an array of installations on par with those seen at international events. Funny, funky, flashy and fertile – The Project 2009 had them all.

It's Not Over Yet

If you missed any of the showrooms and their installations at SiD, it's not too late. Get on in to all the showrooms, where most are still celebrating with displays, The Project installations and all the new products.

We've put together a full run-down of each SiD Precinct below. You'll also find galleries of images below each article, full of people, products and places throughout Sydney's premier design locations. All Photography has been provided by the wonderful John Doughty of SPY PHOTOGRAPHY.
