The $20 million upgrade of T2 Sydney Airport has won the “Tourism and Leisure Development” and “Emerging Asset” categories at the Excellence Awards, announced in May.
Woodhead Aviation Principal, David Holm, said, “The success of the architecture and interior design for Terminal 2, which uses height and light to give the terminal a cleaner more streamlined feel, has been reflected in its overwhelmingly positive reception by passengers and now this further recognition by the PCA through the Innovation and Excellence Award.”
“The winning design acknowledges that airports of today need to be flexible, allowing a variety of functional and revenue models to emerge over time. It is also an expression of Sydney’s unique light with skylight vistas focused towards the airfield.”
T2 is a vital piece of infrastructure for the NSW tourism industry. The upgrade, driven by the huge growth in passenger numbers, also revised the retail, food and security areas with the new design enhancing operational efficiencies. The total retail area alone was increased from 1,000 sqm to 5,000 sqm.
Congratulations, Woodhead.
