Merewether Surf House

Blinds by Peter Meyer were asked by Co-ap architects to design "fixed" awnings that captured the feel of a particular Scandinavian building.

Blinds by Peter Meyer were asked by Co-ap architects to design "fixed" awnings that captured the feel of a particular Scandinavian building, that utilised the strong visual effect of bright coloured non-retractable panels, to the 2 upper levels of the East ( beach facing ) Elevation. The awnings were required to span 6 metres between the large recycled timber posts, with a robust design using 100mm anodised aluminium roller tubes top and bottom, ensuring minimal deflection. High Grade stainless steel brackets and fixings were required to mount the awnings to the timber and concrete, ensuring the elimination of salt corrosion, as the building is on the sea front. The roller tube at the top of the awning incorporates a heavy duty spring that allows the awning fabric to deflect in high winds, alleviating stresses on the system. The Ferrari Soltis 86 fabric was chosen, as the high-tenacity polyester yarn re-enforcement makes it exceptionally resistant to wind and weather. Flame retardancy and dimensional stability were also major reasons for the choice of this fabric.

Crone Partners, the main architects on the project, specified 3 motorised retractable folding arm awnings over the outdoor seating area on the Western Terrace. German designed and manufactured, Warema brand awnings were offered, which was both an economical and high quality product to use for this application. The awning frames and cassettes are manufactured from high grade aluminium with a special powdercoat finish designed for coastal applications. Once again, a flame retardant, weather resistant fabric was specified, as the area is for public usage and therefore required by building regulations. The awnings are motorised switch operated from inside the restaurant and incorporate a wind sensor that will automatically retract the awnings in high winds, to avoid damage to the awnings.

Known for it's innovation in the blind industry, Blinds by Peter Meyer was asked to provide a motorised custom Roman Blind as a room divider in the 3rd floor dining area. This is a blind that flows down, out of the stylish wave ceiling, and can be used to create an intimate space for dining when required.

Motorised internal blockout roller blinds were required in the 2nd floor, state of the art conference rooms. The rooms can easily be divided into a number of simultaneously used spaces, with AV screens that fold down automatically from the ceiling in each area. The centrally operated switching system can create the optimal "individual scenes" required in this technology driven era we live in. The blinds are hidden away in recesses around the perimeter of the rooms, and are driven down, almost silently, using Somfy's quiet motor technology. Urban Shade fabric was specified for it's strong blockout qualities, and once again , flame retardancy.
