Launceston gets a taste of the Big Apple with the new salad bar ’Sa Sa So’.
August 25th, 2008
Tasmanian-based interior designers Bury and Kirkland (B&K) were set the brief to create an environment that gave the feeling you were in a ‘hip and happening city’ for the Launceston ‘Sa Sa So’ salad bar.
B&K took the brief quite literally, creating a wallpapered backdrop of a New York cityscape in the dining area. Divided into in-house dining and takeaway, the salad bar is inspired by the London Pret a Manger model of a ‘hip, fast and fresh’ way to buy lunch.
Vibrant colours throughout are drawn from the rich palate of the salad ingredients on offer. Different styles of seating, including café chairs and armless armchairs, are accompanied by a large communal table.
The project uses modern materials such as metallic mosaic tiles, acrylic furniture and pendant lights, combined with the original floorboards and the timber table.
‘Sa Sa So’ is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, 10am to 9pm. Tasmanian produce features on the menu with fish caught daily for the popular fish and chips.
‘Sa Sa So’ -109 St John Street, Launceston, Tasmania.
