Award winning duo Russell & George create a ’speakeasy’ that’s easy-on-the-eye
August 2nd, 2012
The multi-award winning duo: Russell & George have a secret. A secret bar – that is.
In the tradition of the ’speakeasy’ bar culture of the prohibition era, this intimate little venture in Melbourne, Australia, is tucked surreptitiously away behind famed hamburger store Huxtaburger (also a Russell & George designed fit-out).
Inhabiting the now closed-off adjoining shop front and lurking mischievously behind one-way glass, the affably named “Bill’s Bar” is an exercise is understated indulgence.
Passing-up the sleek silvers, blacks and whites that characterise Huxtaburger, Bill’s does carry through the distinct harlequin motif in its warm timber wine rack that lines an entire wall of the venue.
“We’re such fans of what Daniel Wilson, Dante Ruaine and Jeff Wong have created with their eateries, and it was a delight to work with them again on Bill’s Bar” said Byron George of Russell & George.
“They have such a clear vision for their food and venues, which customers have really responded to – they love these places”.
