New Post building to become Potts Point community hub
December 24th, 2007
A $52 million boutique Post development at 46a Macleay Street is about to transform Potts Point.
The former post office site is set to become the new community hub thanks to Sydney design practice, Burely Katon Halliday (BKH).
Developed by Ashington, it will become home to 41 deluxe office suites, premium street-side retail space and a gourmet food emporium in early 2008.
“The brief was to reuse the building fabric of the post office and convert the large, windowless structure into a transparent and active mixed-use luxury office and retail complex,” says Madeleine Blanchfield, project architect at Burley Katon Halliday.
A five-storey glass wall and colonnade will be added to the existing structural columns and concrete beam ceiling system to define it as a unique and dynamic public space.
Almost 60 per cent of the space was sold prior to completion.
